We spoke to James, Director of HNE Media services about how to choose the perfect venue for your wedding day. Here's what he advises:
When you are looking for a venue for your wedding you will have lots of options to consider. This blog gives some advice to help you to make a decision and find the perfect wedding venue for your perfect day.
Do your research
We meet lots of couples at wedding fayre’s and wedding venue open day events. Many couples use a wedding open day or wedding fayre as an opportunity to see the venue dressed for a wedding. It is also an ideal opportunity to meet some of the venue recommended suppliers. These will generally be wedding suppliers who work at the venue regularly and know the venue well. It is also advisable to book a private viewing appointment, where a member of the venue team can show you round and explain how different aspects of your wedding will work at that particular venue.
We would recommend creating a shortlist and then looking at the venues to get a better feel for them. Also, talk to wedding suppliers for some honest feedback about their experiences at a particular venue.
How many guests would you like to have?
Wedding venues come in all sizes, large and small. It is important to understand if the venue you are interested in will be able to comfortably accommodate your chosen number of guests. This is particularly important for the ceremony. There would be little point in booking a venue which can hold 50 for the ceremony, if you intend on having over 100 day guests for example. Again, consult the wedding venue team for their advice on numbers.
Staying the night
One of the big factors for many couples in picking their venue, is the ability for friends and family to stay the night of the wedding, or even the night before the wedding. When looking for a venue, consider how many of your guests you would like to be able to stay the night. If the venue itself cannot accommodate everyone you think would want to stay, then look for other local hotels where you could suggest guests could book. You may even be able to speak to the local hotels and agree a preferential rate for your guests depending on the time of year and level of demand etc.
What style of venue do you like?
When considering your choice of wedding venue the most fundamental aspect is often the look and feel of the venue. Perhaps you like older properties?, or you may want a very modern venue. Perhaps you like the idea of a barn, or a country house, or a castle?. You may even want to get married somewhere such as an old cinema or theatre for example. Looking online for inspiration is a great place to start. You may also want to look at our Wedding Reel YouTube channel for inspiration for your wedding venue.
Cost
When looking for and choosing your perfect wedding venue, one consideration is budget. How much are you comfortable investing in the venue?. Many venues offer preferential rates for weekday or off-peak weddings. You may be able to have the venue of your dreams if you book your wedding for January or February for example.
