The Story Behind Veil and Verse: Love & Words Worth Remembering

Some businesses begin with a clever business plan, a gap in the market or a light bulb moment during a particularly productive Monday morning. Veil & Verse began with a wedding notebook, a little creative frustration and one rather important question: why couldn’t I find a wedding poem that actually sounded like us?

I’m Rachel, the poet, writer and founder behind Veil & Verse. I’m also a wife, mum of two, lifelong lover of words and someone who has always believed that the best gifts are the ones that make people feel truly special.

What started as a personal wedding project has grown into a business creating bespoke poetry for weddings, celebrations and all those occasions that deserve something a little more memorable. And I’d love to tell you how it all began!

Where It All Began: A Wedding, A Notebook and An Idea

When I started planning my own wedding, I was completely immersed in the exciting details. The dress, the flowers, the stationery, the colour palettes and all the little finishing touches that make a wedding feel like yours.

But when it came to the ceremony, I found myself struggling.

I wanted something that reflected our relationship, made our guests smile and felt genuinely personal. I spent hours searching for the perfect wedding reading, but everything I found felt a little too generic. Beautiful, perhaps, but not quite us.

So I decided to write my own.

I created a bespoke ceremony poem about our daughter, Willow, followed by a rhyming bride’s speech, personalised poems for every wedding guest and special poetry gifts for my bridesmaids and mum.

The response was wonderful. Our guests laughed, cried and discovered little details about themselves through their individual poems. It became one of the most talked-about parts of our wedding day.

More importantly, I realised that other couples might love the idea just as much as I did.

And so, Veil & Verse was born.

Meet Rachel: The Writer Behind the Rhymes

Writing has always been a huge part of my life, both personally and professionally.

I hold a BA in English Language and an MA in Broadcast Journalism, and I’ve spent years working with words across digital content, journalism, business writing and creative projects.

I love finding the right way to tell a story. Sometimes that means creating something heartfelt and sentimental; other times, it means finding the perfect rhyme to make someone laugh out loud.

My favourite projects are those that give me an opportunity to get to know the people behind the words. The funny little habits, embarrassing stories, unexpected hobbies, family traditions and personality traits that make someone who they are.

Because that’s where the magic happens.

I’m not interested in producing generic verses with a few names dropped into the rhyming couplets. I want to create something that could only ever have been written for that particular person, couple or family.

Every commission starts with a story, and no two stories are ever quite the same.
